My Top 10 AutoCAD Releases By David Cohn These ten releases, and the standout features and functions within them, have helped make AutoCAD the powerful program that it is today. I’ve been using AutoCAD for more than 30 years, having started with version 1.4. During that time, I have seen every new feature and function that has been added in all 30 releases of AutoCAD, including many that have become indispensable. I could not imagine using AutoCAD today without those features. For example, can you imagine not being able to create arrays or fill an area with a hatch pattern? What if there was no MIRROR command? Can you believe that at one time, the only way to start a command was by typing? In the spring of 1982, AutoCAD had only 28 commands, there was no way to customize the software, and the ability to add dimensions cost extra. AutoCAD has certainly come a long way since its initial release. So today, to celebrate the 31st release of AutoCAD, I decided to look back over the past 34 years to select my own top 10 list of the most important features and functions of AutoCAD, and the release in which each was introduced. www.cadlearning.com 13
