It’s Coming for You! As a Revit user, you have probably heard the word Dynamo at some point in time. If not, you will start hearing it mentioned a lot so here’s a quick primer! Dynamo is a free add-in to Revit that uses visual programming. It allows any Revit user to program in the Revit API to perform tasks above and beyond what was possible with just the Revit User Interface. With Dynamo you don’t need to learn all those complicated text based programming languages such as C# and Visual Basic to program in Revit. I know I’ve used the word programming several times now, but please don’t stop reading! The exciting part is any Revit user can become a programmer in the Revit API by simply learning Dynamo. How is it so easy you may ask? Dynamo uses visual programming which allows users to develop programs working with graphical elements as an alternative to writing code. Dynamo is a great compliment to Revit. When you learn Dynamo you can do just about anything in Revit. Are you excited about Dynamo yet?!?! There’s a reason why Revit users all around the world are pumped about this new program. Revit is a parametric modeler, and Dynamo makes Revit even more parametric. Do you have issues creating complex geometry in Revit? With Dynamo, creating complex geometry is a snap. Do you have a repetitive task in Revit that takes a long time to perform? Well Dynamo is able to help you with that too, using automation! I’m committed to help AEC professionals understand what Revit can do and how to use the program to meet the needs of a project. The same is true with Dynamo. I’m working on new learning content to help you get going with Dynamo. If you researched Dynamo in the past you may have seen a lot of complex geometry, twisting towers, and several representations that were unrelated to your day to day workfl ow. Don’t let this scare you. Dynamo is actually for every Revit user because it’s easy to learn, it’s free, and it could help you on your everyday Revit tasks. CADLearning for Dynamo Fundamentals content will be available soon to help you begin using Dynamo with Revit! I’ve teamed up with a good friend that also happens to be one of the world’s leading experts on Dynamo and Revit to help develop this new Dynamo content. He also happens to be the top speaker at Autodesk University and at RTC year after year. I’m happy to be collaborating with Marcello Sgambelluri on this project. We are looking forward to helping all Revit users understand how to use Dynamo! by Jason Boehning www.cadlearning.com 15
