Revit 2016 New Features MEP Fabrication Detailing by Jason Boehning The addition of fabrication content to Revit is huge! In my opinion, it shows that Autodesk is not just trying to create a BIM program, but they are trying to take Revit to a full-on virtual design and construction program. However, I will also say that these tools are not perfect. This is the fi rst release containing fabrication content. Users need to test these features out on a large-scale and then provide feedback. Then over the course of the next year, Autodesk will really be able to refi ne these features. MEP Fabrication Detailing MEP fabrication parts allow you to model intended installation details. You can use LOD 400 content from Autodesk Fabrication products right inside Revit. The content comes from CADmep, ESTmep, and CAMduct. The fabrication content is not intended to replace the design content, such as elements placed using the standard MEP tools in Revit. The fabrication content is available for detailing. It does not facilitate calculations for MEP systems. Watch Video here The fi rst step of using MEP fabrication content in Revit is specifying a fabrication confi guration. Fabrication confi gurations are essentially a library of fabrication parts that can be used in the Revit model. Confi gurations are managed with the current version of the Autodesk Fabrication products. You can download sample fabrication confi gurations containing generic US Imperial and UK Metric content. Links to download these confi gurations can be found on the Autodesk Revit Help website or the Autodesk Knowledge Network. The content will be downloaded in a folder on your system that can be accessed by Revit. Then you can specify a confi guration in Revit. On the Systems ribbon, click the dialog box launcher on the Fabrication panel. This opens the Fabrication Settings dialog. At the top, there is a Fabrication confi guration drop-down. When you expand the drop-down, you can see the fabrication confi gurations that have been downloaded on your system. Once a service is loaded, you can use it! On the Systems ribbon, in the Fabrication panel, click Fabrication Part. This opens the MEP Fabrication Parts palette. This palette behaves like the Properties palette and Project Browser. 14 www.cadlearning.com
