Revit 2016 New Features Structural Enhancements Watch Video here by Jason Boehning Most of the structural updates are additions of parameters or improved functionality to existing tools. They may not seem like a lot, but for some workfl ows, they can dramatically improve the design and documentation process. I apologize for the lack of description in some of these updates, but in some cases the update is as simple as a new parameter being available. structural fl oors and foundation slabs. • Elevation at Bottom Core – for multi- layered structural fl oors and foundation slabs. • Elevation at Bottom – for beams, braces, structural fl oors, and foundation slabs. • Reference Level Elevation – for beams and braces. Steel Profi les Release and Member Forces In 2015, a Section Shape parameter was added for structural framing elements. This parameter provides additional dimension and structural analysis properties that can be used in external analysis and code checking applications. These additional parameters ensure accurate data exchange with structural analysis software, code checking, and steel detailing. For 2016, additional parameters were added to the Section Shape category. You can fi nd the additional parameters for Hot Rolled Steel Section Shape Detailing Dimensions and Cold- Formed Steel Section Shape Dimensions. Continuing on with the updates to improve the documentation of a structural model, you can now use the member end force information in schedules and tags for beams, braces, and columns. Just be aware that these are instance parameters for the structural analytical model for beams, braces, and columns. Elevation Parameters To assist with tagging and scheduling structural elements, the following parameters are now available: • Elevation at Top – for beams, braces, structural fl oors, and foundation slabs. • Elevation at Top Core – for multi-layered 4 www.cadlearning.com Truss Chord Rotation For trusses, there is an instance parameter that controls whether the chords rotate with the truss:
