If it’s not open, select the Windows menu, then select Rendering Editors > Hypershade or press the Display Hypershade Window button next to the Display Render Settings button in the main menu. Click in the mia_material_x name fi eld and type in “Paint_Blue,” and then press ENTER to accept the name. You’ll create a new material that’s based on the mental ray mia_ material_x material node. By default, the mia_material_x material is created using a high refl ectivity and a high glossiness. Refl ectivity is the ability to refl ect light that strikes a surface; Glossiness is the ability of a surface to scatter the light that strikes the surface. You do not want a highly refl ective, very shiny The fi rst parameter—or Shader—that you will adjust is the color of the material. Click the color swatch in the Diffuse rollout of the material. This brings up the color selector. Start by selecting one of the preset colors on the top in the Color History area. Click the dark blue color swatch, then you’ll edit this. Something very important to understand about this color selector is that you should not move your mouse off of the window at all as you’re editing, otherwise, the window will automatically close. Make sure the color space option is set to the fi rst RGB option.
