AU Classes are Available Online Jerry Berns Autodesk University 2015 offered over 700 live sessions to its nearly 10,000 attendees. With time enough to attend only a hand-full of classes, you have to choose your classes carefully. As for myself, I attended a mix of Inventor, Fusion, Simulation, and 3ds Max classes. They were great presentations, but I wish I could have cloned myself to attend even more classes (A little Star Wars joke to highlight the presence of Storm Troopers at AU promoting The Force Awakens opening). It turns out, I didn’t need to clone myself after all. On December 15, Autodesk released all the sessions online. And of these, over 350 are recorded sessions which allow you to experience a class, almost like being there. To watch a class, follow the handout, or review the presentation, just click the link to go to the AU2015 online class catalog. http://au.autodesk.com/au-online/overview On the web page, you can search by software, presenter, or language. You can watch the classes online or download them to take them with you or share with others. I like this option because I can then watch the class in my favorite player to control the playback speed. I have selected a few of these classes that I thought you might enjoy if you weren’t able to attend. AutoCAD Autodesk Technical Evangelist, Lynn Allen, offers a fun and fast-paced class on tips and tricks to speed your way through your AutoCAD design work. Lynn covers many of the new features in AutoCAD 2016 such as the new DIM command. I was reminded of the new DimLayer system variable that allows the new DIM command to automatically place dimensions on your preferred layer. I also discovered the new “sticky” feature of the Mtext Match Properties tool that allows you to apply multiple properties operations instead of a single operation. If you use a lot of third-party AutoLISP applications, you may have noticed that your File dialog box or the Plot dialog box may not open as expected. Perhaps other behaviors have changed after you used or cancelled an AutoLISP tool. Now you can monitor and restore your system using the System Variable Monitor (SYSVARMONITOR). I’ve demonstrated the RevCloud command for many years. I’ve always felt that it has been diffi cult to modify these objects. Lynn showed how Autodesk has made it easier to create, edit, and combine rev clouds. Lynn provided a DesignCenter tip that reminded me of an article I posted years ago. Did you know that you can use DesignCenter to determine which fi les are used as External References (XRefs) in www.cadlearning.com 11
